Indivisible East TN Endorsements

Indivisibles across the country changed how politics works in 2017. This year, we’ll change how elections work. Our first step: endorsing progressive champions in House, Senate, and gubernatorial races!

Our process is driven by the Indivisible Project’s Endorsement Guide. We've appointed a diverse committee comprised of members who are not involved in federal or gubernatorial campaigns. This committee will nominate candidates for an endorsement, then we'll open voting to our community.

Here’s how it’ll work:

1. The committee is vetting candidates using the Indivisible Project's tools. This includes providing candidates with an extensive questionnaire, evaluating their campaigns, reviewing their public statements and conducting an interview.

2. They will nominate candidates for an endorsement who align most with our Indivisible values.

3. Anyone who has participated with Indivisible East Tennessee in any capacity will be invited to participate in an online event with nominated candidates and then, cast a vote in support or in opposition. Registration has closed. To request a ballot before the deadline, contact us HERE. (Deadlines - Fitzhugh: Tuesday, 6/26 at midnight EST, Hoyos: Wednesday, 6/27 at midnight EST)

A majority of the total vote cast will be the deciding factor on whether or not we'll endorse a candidate locally and submit them for a national endorsement.

The Big Question...

Will we consider endorsing a candidate who is competing in a Primary? Yes.

If we endorse a candidate in a Primary, we will not participate in negative messaging about their opponent. If our endorsed candidate does not win the Primary, we will put our full support behind the most progressive candidate competing in the General Election.

For us the endorsement process is a way to promote progressive values, not just the candidate. It is also a long-term strategy of accountability for any person we help elect to office.

Here's how National Indivisible Endorsements work:

  1. Indivisible East TN will submit candidates for a national endorsement in the final round. (Deadline June 30)

  2. Indivisible’s National Political team will vet the candidates. Vetted candidates will be voted on by all supporters in the districts or states they hope to represent.

  3. After voting, Indivisible Project will select and announce their national slate of candidates.
